Natural horn: an exclusive material

We mainly use natural horn to make our frames. Genuine horn is a fascinating material: each horn varies in its colour structure and grain in a unique way. This makes each model a matchless individual. The natural material has outstanding properties that have proven particularly useful in the manufacture of spectacles.

It is extremely light, feels pleasant on the skin and also offers a good option for people with skin allergies. Our employees take time to produce each horn frame. They create exquisite eyewear by hand from high-quality horn. As the frames are created from one or more natural horn plates, we are able to offer a wide range of colours.

Nature and sustainability

It should be emphasised at this point that the water buffalo is not covered by the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. The buffalo are kept in Asia and Africa as domestic and work animals and supply the high-quality material as a by-product. Incidentally, a horn that has grown slowly and over a long period of time is best suited to the manufacture of spectacles.

Nature times two

We also like to combine natural horn with other materials to produce Design Naturell frames. Silk, for example, is ideal for giving spectacles a special touch. We can use one of our own silks or a suitable silk of your choice. We will be happy to advise you on which properties the silk must have and which patterns are suitable for inclusion in a spectacle frame. Titanium offers another possible combination. Titanium is light, robust and skin-friendly and is particularly suitable for the arms of the glasses.
These temples are easy to adjust and extremely comfortable to wear thanks to their light weight and delicate shape. Wood is an excellent partner for natural horn. A layer of fine wood gives the horn material a completely new look. Attractive models can be created that combine the unique grains of different natural materials. In this way, nature shows off two of its most beautiful aspects in one spectacle frame.

Care and adjustment of spectacles: what you should know

Like any precious item, our fine natural horn spectacles should be looked after with care. It is important to know that the frames do not tolerate extreme heat or moisture. If the lenses are cleaned with a cleaning spray, this should only be sprayed onto a soft cloth with which the lenses are then cleaned.
As everyone's facial features are unique, the frame needs to be individually adjusted for an optimal fit. Under no circumstances should spectacle wearers do this themselves: optical professionals have the necessary expertise and equipment.
